You are worthy

In Wikipedia, self-worth is defined as follows: “Self-worth (also: self-esteem, self-confidence,) is understood by psychology to be the assessment that one has of oneself.” Psychologists assume that our identity is shaped by a mixture of genetic predispositions and social environment. But how do I rate myself, based on which criteria? How do I feel about myself? The image I have of myself has developed in the course of life, based on my experiences, based on what other people spoke into my life and has also been defined by comparing me with other people. But comparing things did more harm than good to my self-image, because there is always someone who is more successful, more beautiful, braver, more intelligent, funnier, more creative, etc. than me. This increases dissatisfaction, tension and the feeling of not being good enough. There was pressure to perform, because the value I gave myself was dependent on the recognition of people. I always wanted to please everyone and found it harder and harder to say “no”, even if something was overwhelming. When I got to know Jesus and invited him into my life , my self-worth changed as I let him give me my worth.

God’s love for me is indescribable, incomprehensible and overwhelming. I was created uniquely, a one-of-a-kind, a marvel of God.

Isaiah 53: 4: You are precious in my eyes and I love you!

“I thank you for being wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, and my soul knows it well. ”Psalm 139:14

I can “be”. God loves me the way I am. He knows my heart. He also knows my limitations, my mistakes, my weaknesses. His love is unconditional and constant. He thinks much more of me than I do myself. He trusts me more than I trust myself. He finds me valuable, regardless of what I do. God has given me gifts and abilities that only I have. That’s why I don’t need to compare or measure myself with others. Image result for what god thinks about me It is my goal to recognize how God meant me and to live in his destiny for my life. I can only recognize myself as God meant me when I open my heart and meet him, when I ask him in prayer and he puts an answer in my heart. I no longer want to live to please other people, but to please God. My identity questions: “Who am I? Why am I? Where do I come from? Where am I going? ”received an answer in Jesus Christ. I am a beloved daughter of God, I was created to be in fellowship with God, to live in relationship (that is my destiny), God is my Creator and after my death I will return home to God the Father. My identity is in Christ.

You are our father. We are the clay, you are the potter, and we are the work of your hand, Isaiah 64: 7

God shows us his love in his word, there I can meet him, get to know his father’s heart. The word of God, the Bible is a love letter from God to us humans.

God doesn’t love you because you are so precious But you are valuable, because God loves you so. Dietrich Bonhoeffer

That I’m worth in your eyes exceeds my feeling and understanding, but your promises are more reliable than my fickle feelings. And if it may be a long way until I learn to see myself, I still know: You have countless possibilities to share in your good thoughts about me. (Prayer by Antje Sabine Naegeli )

My self-worth today is determined by the truths that God Himself speaks about my life. Little by little, in a constant process, God shows me the life lies that I believed, exposes the negative evaluation, the thoughts that the enemy tries to persuade me and replaces them with the liberating truth of God.

I know everything about you. (The Bible, Psalm 139: 1) I know when to sit down and when to get up. (Psalm 139.2) All your ways are known to me. (Psalm 139: 3) Even the hair on your head is numbered. Under gods protection

Lesedauer 2 Minuten

Such an umbrella is a good thing. On the one hand, it protects us from rain and also from heat. The raindrops bounce off him and we stay dry. On hot days we find soothing and relaxing shade under an umbrella. To protect ourselves we have to stay under the umbrella.

In our everyday life we find ourselves again and again in situations where we seek and need protection. When difficulties and challenges arise, we are happy to find a safe place where we can find security and refuge. How do you go through the storms of life? Do you have an umbrella with you that you can open up and stand under? . If we walk through the rain without an umbrella, we get wet. If we lie in the sun without an umbrella, we get sunburn. Likewise, when we go through life without a protective umbrella, we are exposed to various dangers. An umbrella cannot stop rain, sun, challenges and difficulties, but we feel secure and protected under it.

My refuge, protection and shield that I always have with me is God. I rely on him as it is written in Psalm 91: 1:

“Whoever sits under the umbrella (protection) of the Most High and remains under the shadow of the Almighty, speaks to the Lord: My confidence and my castle, my God in whom I hope.”

I’m fine under God’s umbrella, I can stay calm even when storms are raging around me, because I know that he is holding his protective hand over me.

“You surround me on all sides and hold your protective hand over me.” Psalm 139.5

God’s umbrella is infinitely large and there is room for everyone. Whoever entrusts his life to God puts himself under his patronage. Everyone who decides to sit under his umbrella and stay under his shadow is safe. Everyone who stays in the presence of God, stays close to him, stays in touch and in relationship with God, finds refuge.

“With you I am safe, protected in every danger and surrounded by the exultation of salvation.” Psalm 32: 7

“Lord my God, I look to you with confidence, I seek protection from you” Psalm 141: 8

“You are my protection and my shield, I rely on your promise” Psalm 119:14

“Yes, God his way is perfect, Yahweh’s word is unadulterated. He is a shield for all who seek protection from him. ”Psalm 18:31

“He protects you with his wings, you find protection under his wings. His loyalty is a defense and a shield. ”Psalm 91: 4

“Yahweh is good, a safe refuge in times of need. He knows those who seek protection from him. ”Nahum 1,2

God says: He loves me, that’s why I want to save him. He knows my name, so I will protect him. ”Psalm 91:14

Think positive – World of thoughts

Lesedauer 6 Minuten

Every day we are faced with a flood of thoughts. We think every second, we deal with the future, with the past, with the here and now, we think about ourselves and about others, about positive and negative. We think consciously, but often thoughts just roll over us. In the Bible I read the following verse about the power of thoughts:

“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” Sprüche 4,23

So our thoughts influence our lives. Thoughts determine our feelings, guide our actions, control our behavior. That is why it is so important to pay attention to what we think about, what we deal with, which thoughts we allow and let into us. Because there are not only good thoughts, but also bad ones. Negative thoughts about myself about my fellow human beings about the future about the past Not all thoughts come from God.

Where do these negative thoughts come from?

They can arise from past experiences. It can be imprints or beliefs that we have learned. It can also be that we have to struggle with problems e.g. at work, in the family partnership or are affected by illness. The Bible often speaks of a spiritual battle that we have to fight. In addition to the visible world, I am convinced that there is also a spiritual, invisible world in which there is a battle between good and evil, between the powers of the devil and the powers of God. This is another reason why we so often struggle with negative thoughts. The enemy wants to rob us of all the good that God gives us.

“Be sober and vigilant! Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour ”(1 Peter chapter 5, verse 8)

The only power the enemy has left over us is to roar in our minds, to confuse our minds so that we cannot see the truth of God.

What do negative thoughts do?

Negative thoughts make us feel bad. If we let our thoughts run their course and not control them, negative thought patterns, the Bible speaks of fortresses, can build up. The consequences are worries, fears, depression, bad self-esteem (self-image), victim role (constant whining or wanting to blame others).

How can I overcome negative thoughts, what tools do I get from God?

In the Word of God it says that we need to renew our way of thinking, a God-centered attitude changes our lives.

“Let yourself be changed in your thinking and completely realign yourself inwardly” Ephesians 4:23

The renewal of my thoughts doesn’t happen overnight, it’s a process. It can happen that we fall back into old thought patterns that we have built up over the years. Step by step together with Jesus we can collapse these walls of thought and decide every day for God’s thoughts, s expressing his good thoughts about our lives.

In contrast, today’s psychology says, “Get to know yourself, gain a new trust in yourself, and you will learn to think again.” There may be some truth to it, but if we really want to get to know each other, then we have to know God learn because he is our creator. Even what the esoteric promises doesn’t get me any further. In positive thinking from the esoteric New Age area, the focus is on the self. Man would create reality through his positive thinking. In biblical faith, on the other hand, Almighty God is at the center. We are not creating, but God. We trust God and not our positive thinking. God can get to know if we read the Bible, study how Jesus acted in the respective situations. We need the personal, living relationship with Jesus and fill ourselves with his thoughts of joy, peace, hope, confidence, grace, forgiveness. In this way we can let go of the past and bring it to Jesus on the cross. Bad experiences, crises that we have experienced, the unconscious no longer has to burden our lives.

Think no more of what used to be, what has passed, you should not pay attention to. Look here, now I’m doing something new. It is already emerging, do you not notice it? “(God in Isaiah chapter 43, verses 18-19) “

The word of God is alive and effective. It is sharper than the sharpest sword and penetrates our innermost thoughts and desires. It reveals who we really are and reveals our hearts to God ” Hebrew 4,11

prayer

In prayer we can direct our thoughts to God, give all negative thoughts to god, everything that burdens us to him and receive peace and good thoughts.

Praise and thank When we adopt a grateful attitude, we direct our thoughts towards the good in our life, negative thoughts lose their power.

Word of God, the Bible The truth of God’s word has the power to destroy the lies we believe.

When we have poor self-esteem, think about what we cannot and are not, we read the following verses and accept them for ourselves in faith:

“Lord, thank you for making me so wonderful and unique! Everything you have created is great – I can tell! “Psalm 139:14

“How overwhelming are your thoughts for me, O God, there are so many!” Psalm 139:17 ”

When we worry, we respond to our thoughts with the following truth:

“That is why I say to you: do not worry about your life, whether you have something to eat or drink, and about your body, whether you have something to wear! Life is more than food and drink, and the body is more than clothing! Look at the birds! They don’t sow, they don’t reap, they don’t gather supplies – but your Heavenly Father takes care of them. And you are worth much more to him than birds! How many of you can worry about adding a day to your life? And why are you worried about what to wear? See how the flowers grow in the fields! They do not work or dress themselves, but I tell you, not even Solomon, with all his wealth, was dressed as splendidly as any of them. If God equips even the wild flowers that bloom today and will be burned tomorrow, won’t He care more about you? Do you have so little trust? So don’t worry! Do not ask: ‘What should we eat?’ ‘What should we drink?’ ‘What should we wear?’ People who do not know God are plagued with all this. Your Heavenly Father knows you need all of these. Make sure you submit to his rule first and do what he asks, and then he will provide you with all the rest. So do not torment yourselves with thoughts of tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. It is enough that each day has its own burden. ”“ Matthew 6: 25-34

When we are afraid, God speaks in his word:

“God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of strength, love and prudence” 2 Timothy 1: 7

Do not be afraid for I am with you. Do not look anxiously for help, for I am your God ”Isaiah 41:10

If we are down, sad, we always have new hope, because:

“The joy in the Lord is my strength” Nehemiah 8:10

“To be close to God is my happiness” Psalm 73:28

When we are sick:

“Indeed, he bore our sickness and inflicted upon himself our pains. We are healed by his wounds ”Isaiah 53: 4-5

When we care about our children:

“The children of the righteous (those who believe in God) are blessed” Psalm 112: 2

If we agree with God’s thoughts and think more and more how he thinks, the more he can work in us, respond to our prayers and change us.

“Do not conform to the standards of this world, but let God change you so that your whole thinking is realigned. Only then can you judge what God’s will is, what is good and perfect, and what pleases him ”Romans 12: 2

“We use the mighty weapons of God and not worldly weapons to destroy human thought structures.” 2 Corinthians 10: 4

We oppose every wrong thought with the truth of God, it is not easy, it is a daily struggle and again and again a decision. Stopping thoughts, sorting out, not allowing all thoughts that come into our head and also paying attention to what we are doing, what we are looking at, what we are reading, what thoughts we give space and let go of what is not good for us. When our thoughts are constantly revolving around ourselves, what we lack, what we want, etc. we can ask God about people whom we can do good. Thinking of others, helping someone, having a good word for our fellow human beings frees us from ourselves and being there for others and doing good changes our thoughts for the better.

“Love your neighbor as yourself” Mark 12:31

Focus your thoughts wholly on those things that are true and worthy, just, pure and indecent, and deserve general approval; deal with what is exemplary and rightly praised. In all that you do, keep the message that has been given to you and that you have accepted; live as I told you and lived as I did. Then we will be the God of peace with you. ”Philippians 4: 8-9

Salt of the earth

Lesedauer 4 Minuten

Once upon a time there was a king who had three daughters, all of whom he loved very much, but most of them the youngest of them. He wanted to know very much whether the daughters would return his love and demanded a sign of their love from them. The next day they came before him. The eldest had a bowl of sugar in her hand and said to him: I love you as much as this sugar. The father was very happy about it. The middle one had a jar of honey in her hand and said to him: I love you like this honey. The father was also happy about this and then looked expectantly at his youngest daughter. In her hand she had a board with a little salt on it and said to her father: I love you as much as this salt. Father hadn’t expected that. If that’s your love for me, you’re not my daughter anymore, he said angrily. She had to leave the royal court and go out into the world. After wandering around for a long time, she was finally able to work as a simple kitchen maid at another royal court. Nobody knew her there, and she had to do the lowest of services. But through her kind and lovable nature and her grace, she won the affection of all with whom she had anything to do with, and finally also the love of the king’s son. He wanted to marry her – as in a fairy tale. Many kings, including the bride’s father, were invited to the wedding. But nobody knew who the bride really was, not even the king’s son, and certainly not her father. The dishes served tasted wonderful. But when the bride’s father took the first bite from his plate, he had to spit it out immediately; it tasted so bad. He asked his table neighbors to be allowed to taste their dishes – and their food was delicious. Then the king jumped up angrily and shouted that he was being fooled and wanted to leave the wedding. The bridegroom’s father came up in dismay and when he tasted the food he too had to spit it out. Then he cried out with anger: Indeed, whoever has done this will be punished with death for it. Then the bride got up and said: I have prepared the dish and instead of seasoning it with salt i seasoned with sugar and honey, and told her whole story … This fairy tale is about the importance of salt for our lives.

Salt is an important and valuable mineral for our body Salt spices and gives flavor Salt has a healing, cleansing effect Salt disinified Salt is a preservative, it makes food durable Salt is essential to life Salt makes you thirsty.

So salt makes a crucial difference. In the Bible in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 5:13, Jesus said to his disciples:

“You are the salt of the earth.”

So he says to them: you can make a difference, you spread spice and taste, you preserve life, you bring a message of healing into the world. He says you are the salt of the earth, not you will be. In doing so, he gives them an identity and a mission. Jesus does not say these words to all people, but to those who believe in him, follow him, who know him, to those who have a relationship with him. Faith is much more than just believing that God exists. True faith leads to a relationship with God. It is precisely this relationship that makes the difference, is the salt in the soup.

“To all who welcomed him and believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12

In a relationship you get to know each other, maintain regular contact, you spend time together, you are interested in the other, you exchange ideas, talk and communicate with each other, you have the desire to do something for the other, you let the other participate at your life, you are close and trust in the other. It is the same in a relationship with God. The fellowship with Jesus influenced and shaped the disciples and that was also evident to the outside world.

“What you cultivate inside will come into view.” Johannes Hartl

So when we have a living relationship with God we become children of God and are the salt of the earth. Through the connection with God, when God lives in us, we carry the properties of salt in us.

“Salt is good for flavoring. But if it loses its taste, how can you make it salty again? You must have the quality of salt in you and live in peace with one another ”Mark 9:50

And so we can make a difference in our environment. As children of God, we are blessed and can be a blessing to others. God’s love for us makes us important and valuable and therefore we can love others too. We are healed through Jesus and can also pray for healing for our neighbors. Through Jesus we are free from guilt and pure and can forgive as well. By believing in Jesus we have the saving message in us and can pass it on. By being the salt of the earth, we can make others thirsty through our being. Thirsty for the water of life. It only takes a little salt to bring about a change, it does not need big words or deeds, it is enough to be aware that Christ lives in us and that his power is at work in us.

“May your speech always be sweet and seasoned with salt, that you may know how to answer each one.” Colossians 4: 6

“You are the salt of the earth. If the salt is no longer salting, what should you use to salt? It is no longer of any use than to be thrown away and let people crush it. You are the light of the world. The city on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do you light a light and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; so it shines for all who are in the house. Let your light shine before the people so that they may see your good works and praise your Heavenly Father. ”Matthew 5: 13-16

Empathy

Lesedauer 2 Minuten

Empathy describes the ability and willingness to recognize, understand and empathize with the sensations, emotions, thoughts, motives and personality traits of another person. It feels good when we meet people who show compassion and can empathize with others, rejoice with us in good times and sympathize with us in difficult times. As a result, the joy becomes greater, as is well known, shared joy is double joy and sadness becomes lighter. Compassion is very important in all of our relationships and encounters. Empathy helps us deal with conflicts and with people who think differently from ourselves.

Scientists have found out that empathetic people live longer and happier lives. Since empathy is not always a matter of course in our everyday life, we have to decide again and again to get rid of our egocentrism and to get involved with other people.

“Treat people as you would like them to treat you” Luke 6:31

For me, the best example for empathy is Jesus. He had compassion and love for all people. For example, he took a deaf man aside and healed him away from the crowd. He didn’t want to expose him or make himself big. In the Bible in Luke chapter 7, we read the story when Jesus met a widow whose only son had just died. In verse 13 we can read:

“When the Lord Jesus saw the woman, He was deeply moved by her suffering. “Don’t cry!” He consoled her. “Luke 7:13

Also we can read the story of Lazarus. In the scriptures we read:

‘Jesus loved Martha, her sister [Mary] and [her brother] Lazarus.’ When Lazarus got sick, they sent for Jesus, but when he arrived, Lazarus had already died. Mary went to meet Jesus, fell at his feet and wept. When Jesus saw Mary wept, “he was deeply moved and shaken [and] wept” John 11: 33-35

So is God with us all today too, full of love, mercy, compassion, He is with us in joy and sorrow. He knows our feelings. Jesus can empathize with us, he experienced every emotion that we can only imagine when he lived on this earth. He knows joy, sadness, fear, courage, hopelessness, rejection, helplessness, suffering, weakness, strength, anger, anger, despair, security, security, etc. Our God is a compassionate God who understands us. His compassion for us is greater than anything that could ever happen to us. He humbled himself, laid down his glory, and was born a man to be close to us.

“Although he was equal to God in every way, he did not selfishly cling to being like God. No, he renounced it and became like a slave: He was born like any other person and was in everything a person like us ”Philippians 2: 6-7

Jesus, the Son of God, felt like us and wept like us. Yet he gave his life on the cross to save our lives. Jesus is our guide for dealing with other people. Just as we expect empathy and compassion from others, we can also pass this on to our fellow human beings, especially when we become aware of what God has done for us. Instead of criticizing, judging, or saying bad things about one another, we can learn to empathize with the other, understand their emotions, and be compassionate.

True wisdom

Lesedauer 3 Minuten

Wisdom primarily describes a deep understanding of the interrelationships in nature, life and society as well as the ability to identify the most coherent and meaningful course of action in the event of problems and challenges. Wisdom is worth striving for, we need it in decisions that we make in our lives and also in dealing with other people.

“Acquiring wisdom is better than gold, acquiring insight is more noble than silver.” Proverbs 16:16

But where does wisdom come from and how do we acquire wisdom? Is wisdom to be equated with a lot of knowledge, a good degree / education or with our life experience? In situations where we do not know what to do next, we can acquire knowledge or seek advice from good friends who may have had more experience in this matter. All of this helps us, but that’s not all. True wisdom comes from God, it is a gift from God. Our human wisdom is limited, God’s wisdom is infinite.

“For the Lord gives wisdom, and out of his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2: 6

In the Word of God, in the Bible, we can read that God’s wisdom has always been there. Even before the world was created.

“I, the wisdom was instituted from eternity, from the beginning, from the origins of the earth.” Proverbs 8:23

Our entire creation came into being through the wisdom of God, the entire universe with all planets, stars, as well as the life of people and animals on our earth. When I look at creation at how wonderfully God created everything, I can only be amazed. The diversity, beauty and order in all things make me realize the wisdom of God.

“Oh what a profound richness, both wisdom and knowledge of God.” Romans 11:33

The greatness, power, and wisdom of God make my heart humble and God-fearing.

“The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord” Proverbs 9:10

Besides creation, I also find God’s wisdom in his word in the Bible. When I ponder the scriptures, let them into my heart and apply them in my life, God’s thoughts help me to make good decisions in my everyday life, to act wisely in difficult situations and to treat others in God’s favor. The word of God is filled with truths and wisdom that renew my thoughts and give me a new perspective. I can read the Bible again and again and every time I will discover something new in it, recognize new connections and allow myself to be changed anew. God’s wisdom in this is so profound and infinite that I can never fully fathom it in my life, it remains fragmentary.

“The Bible is a source of positive thoughts. Those who let themselves be shaped by it will find wisdom, trust and hope in it. “Quote from John Graz

We find the whole fullness of wisdom in Jesus Christ. All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in him.

“I am rich in Jesus Christ and brought up in his abundance. He has become wisdom, righteousness, holiness and redemption for me. ”1 Corinthians 1:30

In Jesus God’s wisdom becomes visible in the world. He lived his life as a person on earth filled with God’s wisdom, in all situations and with all people he acted wisely and prudently, always with an eye on God the Father. He was not guided by his feelings, thoughts or his own wishes, but by God’s wisdom.

“But the wisdom that comes from God is above all sincere; besides, she seeks peace, she is friendly, ready to give in and allows something to be said. She has compassion for others and does good; it is impartial, without prejudice and without any hypocrisy. ”James 3:17

I want to stretch my life more and more according to God’s wisdom, trust him and align my thoughts with his thoughts.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts and your ways are not my ways, says the Lord. Isaiah 55: 8

Remain open and curious about God’s speech and direct my behavior according to the insights gained, and continue to grow in wisdom and knowledge and ask God for it.

“But if any one of you lacks wisdom, ask God, who gives everyone gladly and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:15

“The biblical definition of wisdom is to see things as God sees them. A person is wise when he can see every circumstance of life with the eyes of God. But in order to be able to see in this way, God has to renew our thinking. ”Quote from Hans-Peter-Royer

“So wisdom is good for your soul. If you find them, you will be fine in the end and your hope will not be in vain. Proverbs 24:14

Patience

Lesedauer 3 Minuten

The word patience (also anciently: long-suffering) describes the ability to wait or to endure something. Those who are willing to live with unsatisfied longings and unfulfilled desires or consciously put them on hold prove to be patient. This ability is closely related to the ability to hope. Also patient is someone who endure difficulties, suffering or annoying situations with serenity and steadfastness.

Patience is a quality that each of us needs again and again in the various situations and circumstances of our lives. You need patience when you are waiting for something, patience in difficulties, patience with yourself and patience with those around you. Things don’t always happen as quickly as you expect them to. Many things just take time. Just as it is in nature, it is also with us humans.

“Patience is the ability to give something nice time to grow. I can’t yell at the seedling and blame it for not being a beautiful plant that refuses to reveal its full glory. Give it space, water it in the right amount from time to time and enjoy the small steps in which it thrives, in order to become what was put into it – its destiny. ” Jan Dobutowitsch

A plant’s God-given destiny is to flower. So I believe that God has a good plan for you and your life too. If you believe this, you have hope and hope is associated with patience.

“But patience deepens and strengthens our faith, and that in turn strengthens our hope. But this hope does not come to nothing. For the Holy Spirit has been given to us, and through him God has filled our hearts with his love. ”

Faith in God strengthens my patience. I believe that everything will happen in “its” time and I live in the trust that his good plan will come true in my life. This certainty gives me serenity and peace, even in waiting times and difficult situations.

“From knowing God comes self-control. Patience grows out of self-control and a life of faith in the glory of God out of patience. ”2. Peter 1,6

“But if we hope for something we have not yet seen, we must wait for it with patience and confidence.” Romans 8:25

It is not always easy to be patient. It may be that you have been praying for a cause for a long time, but nothing has changed. You shouldn’t lose courage and faith, but stay steadfast in prayer and place everything in God’s hands. You can rely on God who gives you patience. Patience is a fruit of the Holy Spirit that lives in you, since you invited Jesus into your heart (Galatians 5:22). If you have never invited Jesus into your heart, take a look at this page:

Become a child of God God

God ngives us patience with ourselves and with our fellow human beings.

“God, who gives this patience and encouragement, should help you to be one and to live in peace with one another. Treat one another as Christ exemplified. “Romans 15.5”

In all of you can be sure that God knows you and is with you in all situations that you have to face. He loves you and is happy about every little step you take and about your thriving and growing in faith.

“I know everything you do – I know your love, your faith, your service and your patience. And I see that you keep making progress in that. ”Revelation 2:19

“And through patience you will hold out to the end, for then your faith will reach full maturity and be perfect and you will lack nothing” James 1: 4

Jubilation

Lesedauer 3 Minuten

There are days, everything goes wrong. We may feel discouraged, depressed about various difficult circumstances and problems. Or tired because of situations that don’t change the way we want them to. We have long prayed for a breakthrough, but it doesn’t seem to work. There are many reasons to complain and be resigned.

However, there is always reason to be happy and joyfull, regardless of what is going on outside. It all depends on where we look. The psalmist David writes in Psalm 5:12:

“Let be happy in you, those who love your name .But all who seek refuge by you will be happy. Their jubilation knows no bounds, because in you they are safe. “

At the beginning of the psalm David laments the bad conditions in the country, he asked the Lord to listen to his groans and cried out to God for help.

“You are my King and my God, I scream to you, I beg you! Lord, you hear my calling early in the morning. Very early in the morning I bring my requests to you and longingly wait for your answer. For injustice you cannot keep silent ”Psalm 5: 3-5

David brings his requests, his suffering, his lament, he lets go of everything with God and so at the end of the Psalm he finds joy again in the focus on God. And so we are also allowed to bring everything to God that burdens us and direct our gaze to him. In him we can be happy and cheer because we know and love his name. When we seek refuge with him, our jubilation knows no bounds, because we are safe with him.

To be “in him” what does that mean for me? For me this means to be rooted in the love of God, to live in connection with God, to align myself with him and strive for his will. In the relationship with God I find joy and reason to cheer.

  • I rejoice in God my Savior. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that all who believe in him should not perish, but have eternal life” John 3:16
  • I enjoy fellowship with God I am happy to be a child of God through faith in Jesus “But those who welcomed him and believed in him, he gave them the right to become children of God” John 1:12
  • I rejoice in God’s good plan for the world and for my life “I have plans for you that are full of future and hope. Jer 29.11
  • . I am happy about God’s love “God is love; and whoever abides in love abides in God and God in him. ”1 John 4:16 b

“I am happy in the Lord, and my soul rejoices in my God; for he has put on me the clothes of salvation and dressed in the cloak of righteousness, adorned like a bridegroom with a priestly headdress and like a bride who is emblazoned in her jewelry “(Isaiah 61,10)

The joy in the Lord Jesus Christ is the source of all joy. If, even on difficult days, I focus my gaze on this joy, on the joy in God, on his love, I remain hopeful, confident and know that I am safe with him, no matter what. That gives me strength and strength in every situation. A joy that comes from communion with God and his unconditional love and grace, which always remains the same until after death. The certainty of his love for me, which is always there, no matter what, helps me in times of challenge, when the sun is not shining, in times when storms are raging in life, not to lose my joy and to hold on to God always has a good plan and that he knows me and never leaves me alone in any situation.

“Do not be troubled; for the joy in the Lord is your strength. ”Nehemiah 8:10

Light and darkness

Lesedauer 3 Minuten

Light enables life, light lets us see, light drives out darkness. In the Bible, light is an image for God. God is the light. The light that leads us to life. Jesus says:

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life ” John 8,12

There is both, light and darkness in the world. There are different powers at work. Darkness separates us from God, light leads us to God. Jesus is the way we can get to the light of God. By dying on the cross, Jesus conquered the forces of darkness and reestablished the connection to God. Man was separated from God through the fall of man and the works of darkness. Jesus sacrifice has taken on the sin of the world and everyone who believes in him becomes a child of God, a child of light. We are called to follow the light and to walk as children of the light.

“For you used to be darkness; but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light; the fruit of light is all goodness and righteousness and truth. Try what is pleasing to the Lord, and do not have fellowship with the sterile works of darkness; rather, covers them at “Ephesians 5: 8-11

Works of darkness are destructive, evil, deceptive and lead to death. The works of light are good, true and lead to life. In the world we see both and every day we can choose whether to follow the darkness or the light. We are called to examine everything and to live in the will of God. Not all works of darkness are evident. Some works are camouflaged in the light and want to deceive us. I am thinking of esotericism, for example.

“Nobody should be found among you … nobody who practices divination, no sorcerer or conjurer or magician …; for everyone who does these things is an abomination to the Lord. Deuteronomy 18: 10-12

From my own experience I can say today that such things do not come from God. Through esotericism it is not the spirit of God that works, but the spirit of the adversary. The problem in esotericism is that although the divine is assumed, God is presented as impersonal, as a kind of energy and not as a personal God. There is no personal relationship with God. In esotericism, creation, nature is made a god, everything is divine, everything is energy. Even humans can develop further and become divine themselves. This teaching contradicts the Bible, which describes that God is the creator and man is the creature, nature his creation. How I distinguish works of darkness from works of light today:

  • Darkness: Man goes his own way, he puts himself in the center, defines his own truth, wants to be God himself, wants to always get ahead through his own achievement and merit, he has no personal relationship with God
  • Light: Man goes God’s way, he puts God in the center, follows the truth of God (Bible, Word of God), subordinates himself to God, lives by grace and does not have to do anything to earn God’s love. The love of God is a gift (it is done). Man lives in a personal relationship with God.

“For with you is the source of life, and in your light we see the light.” Psalm 36:10

“The people who live in the dark see a bright light.” Isaiah 9: 1

Where we meet Jesus, the light, there is change, healing, restoration. We can flourish in the presence of its light. Jesus drives out all darkness. Even in difficult circumstances, his light is consolation and salvation for us. With him we see everything in a different light. We don’t have to stay in the dark, the light lets us know God’s love for us. Jesus, following the light, will bring forth good fruits in our lives: goodness, righteousness and truth.

I lock myself up again in your fatherly loyalty and protection and heart. The earthly business and all dark forces drive away through your closeness. (Protestant hymn book 481.3)

Wealth

Lesedauer 2 Minuten

The definition of wealth is abundance of material or spiritual values. When something is valuable to us and we hang our hearts on it, we call it wealth. These can be very different things in our life, e.g. material wealth (money and goods), beauty, health, family, friends, work, leisure time, talents and much more.

What we hang our hearts on ,determines and defines our life, we align ourselves with it. Wealth promises security and happiness, e.g. a lot of money = financial security. Often we strive for certain things or want to achieve this or that, because we think that our happiness depends on it.

The Bible says we should be careful of what we hang our hearts on. Far too often we focus on wrong goals, on things that basically cannot fulfill us, make us rich or happy. Jesus speaks of treasures on earth and treasures in heaven.

“Do not collect riches here on earth, where moths and rust devour them or thieves break in and steal. Rather collect your treasures in heaven, where they cannot be eaten away by moths or rust and are also safe from thieves. For where your treasure is, there your heart will also be! ”Matthew 6: 19-21

All treasures and riches on earth are perishable, treasures in heaven remain forever. What does Jesus mean by treasures in heaven?

I believe the treasures in heaven are the gifts from God that we receive when we turn our lives around him, our hearts hang on him first of all. Through the connection, fellowship with Jesus we collect treasures in heaven, yes I would say the relationship with Jesus is the greatest wealth we can have as humans, worth much more than a lottery win. His unconditional love, knowing he died for me on the cross, bore my sins for me and forever reconciled me with Heavenly Father, that is a treasure that fills my heart with peace, joy, hope, confidence. This love of his is an immortal treasure and wealth that nothing and no one can steal from me.

Jesus has many treasures in store for me. I can read his word and the bible and get to know and meet him through this.

“I rejoice in your word as one who finds great treasure.” Psalm 119,162

“Your instructions are my treasure; they fill my heart with joy.” Psalm 119: 111

“Happy is the one who trusts in you.” Psalm 84:13

“Prosperity comes through God’s blessing; your own effort does not make it greater.” Proverbs 10:22

“If you get riches, your hearts will not be attached to it.” Psalm 62:11
